AC3Filter - a DirectShow filter for AC3 decoding to play AVI with AC3 audio tracks and MPEG2 (DVD). If you're listening to AC3 streams (5.1 sounds) through a stereo audio system (not 5.1), and it's just too quiet, you can use the AC3Filter control panel to gain the volume.
Full AC3 standard compliance
S/P DIF passthrough support
Decode MPEG2 PES streams
Multichannel output support
Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) support
Overflow control and automatic gain control
Gain levels control
Bitstream information (channel format, bitrate, sample rate, coupling freq and maximun freq)
This is a really handy one, a filetype analyser: gives detailed information about what codecs you need to play a video/audio file, and also gives you the link where you can download those codecs if they are missing on your system. Recognized formats are: AVI, ASF & WMV, Real (.rm, .rmvb), Ogg (.ogg, .ogm), Mpeg-(S)VCD-DVD (.mpg, .vob) and others. Other features: install program, tooltips, drag & drop support, accessible from contextual menu in Explorer, export of all the information, recusive directory analysis, and so on... It is available in several languages, like Chinese, Deutsch, English, Espanol, Francais, Hungarian, Italiano, Nederlands, polski, Portugues, Romanian, Russian.

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms, which is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.
Fractional frame rates
Adjust frame rate, decimate frames, and 3:2 pulldown removal.
Optimized disk access
Create AVI2 (OpenDML) files to break the AVI 2GB barrier and multiple files to break the FAT32 4GB limit.
Integrated volume meter and histogram for input level monitoring.
Real-time downsizing, noise reduction, and field swapping.
Verbose monitoring, including compression levels, CPU usage, and free disk space.
Access hidden video formats: your capture card may support but not have a setting for, such as 352x480.
Keyboard and mouse shortcuts for faster operation.
Clean interface layout: caption, menu bar, info panel, status bar.
Integrated MPEG-1 and Motion-JPEG decoders.
Decompress and recompress both audio and video.
Remove and replace audio tracks without touching the video.
Extensive video filter set (blur, sharpen, emboss, smooth, 3x3 convolution, flip, resize rotate, brightness/contrast, levels, deinterlace, threshold)
Bilinear and bicubic resampling -- no blocky resizes or rotates here.
Remove segments of a video clip and save the rest, without recompressing.
